Photo taken May 2009. In the spring, the new shoots on the Tamarack trees develop these tiny "roses" - which harden and turn into brown/gray cones in the summer! The little cones keep their "rose" shape/appearance and can stay on the tree all through the winter, and sometimes even into the next spring & summer, until something knocks them off.

Do you know we have Tamarack growing in the back of the property, mostly in the muskeg and I have never noticed them??? I'll have to go out and have a look.:) Anyway...that is a beautiful picture!:love:

:D Unless you have different kinds of Tamarack trees, you should see some. Though not the little red roses, until Spring.
