For 's "Nature Reclaims" contest.

Photo taken September 2009. An old house covered in Virginia Creeper (also known as Five-Leaved Ivy). This is actually my Mother's uncle & cousin's house. This vine has been on the house for a long time, but since no one has lived there for a few years now, it's really taking over. It's inside, going in through the windows windows and down the chimney; the upstairs floor is covered in it. The vine is green all spring and summer, and in autumn it turns a gorgeous bright fiery red. True Virgina Creeper, which this is, has tiny (but very strong) adhesive pads on the ends of the tendrils, and adheres to the surface by disks rather than penetrating roots. An invasive, but rather beautiful vine.
